Fire Protection
Integrated fire-protection work for commercial buildings in London and the South East, with nationwide project delivery where required.
Amida coordinates passive and active fire-protection works for existing buildings, refurbishments, remedial programmes and new installations. The objective is to protect compartmentation, escape routes and life-safety systems while leaving a clear record of what has been inspected, installed or corrected.
Requirements are established from available fire strategies, surveys, drawings, door schedules and system information. Where opening-up reveals concealed defects, findings can be documented and incorporated into an agreed remedial scope.
Our commercial fire protection service coordinates passive and active measures including fire stopping, fire-door works and associated life-safety systems, subject to the agreed project scope.
Passive fire protection
- Fire stopping to service penetrations and joints using compatible tested systems such as collars, wraps, coated batt, sealants, compounds and intumescent products.
- Compartment walls and ceilings, cavity barriers, linear gaps, risers, fire-rated encasements and protection associated with structural steelwork.
- Fire-door surveys, repairs, upgrades and replacement, including frames, seals, glazing, ironmongery, clearances, signage and closing performance.
Detection, alarms and suppression
- Fire-alarm and detection installations, alterations, device replacement, interfaces, testing and cause-and-effect considerations appropriate to the scheme.
- Emergency-lighting support and coordination with escape-route or fire-door improvements.
- Sprinkler and other suppression works delivered with appropriate specialist input, including modifications, remedials, testing and commissioning where specified.
Competent delivery with auditable information
Relevant work can be completed through BM TRADA-approved contractors. Labelling, photographs, location references, product information and completion records can be collated to suit the project brief, supporting future inspection and building management.
Fire-protection products are not interchangeable. Substrate, opening size, service type, insulation, annular gap and required rating must correspond with a suitable tested detail. Any limitation, inaccessible area or departure from the agreed system should be recorded rather than concealed by cosmetic finishing.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between passive and active fire protection?
Passive fire protection is built into the fabric of the building: fire stopping, compartment walls and ceilings, cavity barriers and fire doors. Active fire protection covers the systems that detect or respond to a fire, such as alarms, detection, emergency lighting and sprinklers.
What records do we receive when the work is complete?
Labelling, photographs, location references, product information and completion records can be collated to suit the project brief, supporting future inspection and building management.
What happens if opening-up reveals hidden defects?
Findings can be documented and incorporated into an agreed remedial scope. Any limitation, inaccessible area or departure from the agreed system is recorded.
Can one fire-stopping product be swapped for another?
No. Fire-protection products are not interchangeable. Substrate, opening size, service type, insulation, annular gap and required rating must correspond with a suitable tested detail.
